World Wrestling Entertainment is one of the sources of my enjoyment during each week. Despite my love-hate relationship with the company, it\’s still a vehicle I hold near and dear to my heart and I can\’t imagine my life without it. With that said, WWE could stand to do a better job in terms of the online front. When I think about improvements that could be made on WWE\’s Internet front, it has to be in YouTube. What\’s so wrong with it that a web marketing company could come in to help?
WWE\’s YouTube channel possesses many good concepts but they are bogged down by a move that any web marketing company would be against. The idea in question is the closing of comments on many videos. The company may claim to want others to be part of the action but there are no strides made to make this idea come to fruition. To me, this is just an unacceptable move by WWE. It pains me to say this but this is not the first time where people have noticed WWE\’s censorship in effect. An example of talent that\’s been silenced swiftly because of WWE is social media darling and professional wrestler, Zack Ryder. He was about to be released, it seemed like, until he created his own YouTube show, \”Z! True Long Island Story.\” Ryder\’s show was a hit and he found fitting success. It\’s just a shame that the success ended abruptly.
Ryder was once a well-liked star but he slowly fell back into the pit of obscurity, only hoping he\’ll win on TV again. This isn\’t truly his fault, though, and I place most of the blame on WWE. The company seems to be stuck on the idea that a person who finds success outside of the creative team\’s doing is not worthy of time. I believe that the censorship is disgusting and I don\’t understand why a multi-million dollar company would not want to make a few more millions by showing the talent people want to see.
WWE, a world-renown company, would be wise to employ the tactics of a web marketing company so that its online image is more robust. Enabling comments on YouTube\’s videos is a start but merely a start. More of what could be done includes a better engagement of communication with fans and all people should be addressed, fans and critics alike. WWE\’s making millions every single day; who\’s to say that a few more millions wouldn\’t hurt?
